SECOND TRAVEL LANE ADDED TO RAMP FROM NORTHBOUND I-95 TO

WESTBOUND I-695

Improvement to open for Monday morning commute

695etl

BALTIMORE, MD - The MD Transportation Authority (MDTA) will open an additional lane to increase traffic capacity on the ramp from northbound I-95 to westbound I-695 toward Towson (highlighted in purple on graphic) in time for Monday morning commuters.  Previously, the ramp carried a single lane of traffic to westbound I-695 and now will carry two lanes of traffic. One hundred ten feet at its highest point - the ramp opened in late 2008 and is the highest ramp constructed at the interchange.

This is part of the $1.08 billion I-95 Improvement Project, which includes $756 million in significant highway and safety enhancements:

·         Reconfigured three major I-95 interchanges (I-895, I-695 and MD 43) to improve traffic operations and enhance safety;

·         Eliminated left-hand exits from the general-purpose lanes at the I-695 interchange;

·         Modified the traffic pattern on southbound I-95 at I-895, giving priority movement to the majority of motorists who continue along I-95; and

·         Replaced two structurally deficient bridges at MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard).

The Improvements Project's new I-95 Express Toll Lanes are expected to open in late 2014.  For more information, visit I95ExpressTollLanes.com.
