Bay Bridge (US 50/301)

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of June 30 - July 6, 2013

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

 

The westbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. and Monday and Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work. 

The MDTA offers the following travel tips for the summer months:

·        Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge on weekends include:

  •          Thursday, 4th of July before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  •          Friday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  •          Saturday before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  •          Sunday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Reminder:  Effective July 1, the new cash toll rate for two-axle vehicles will be $6.  For toll rates, visit mdta.maryland.gov and click on Toll Rate Calculator.  Pay attention to new lane markings and rumble strips on the Bay Bridge westbound span.  Lane changes between the westbound left and center lanes are prohibited for the entire span, whether or not two-way operations are in effect.

Facility: (I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel

(I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel Closures for the Week of June 24, 2013

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of 6/24/2013 through 6/30/2013:

  •  Monday 6/24 - Bore 1 for Maintenance
  • Tuesday 6/25 - Bore 1 for Maintenance
  • Wednesday 6/26 - Bore 1 for Maintenance
  • Thursday 6/27 - Bore 1 for Maintenance
  • Friday 6/28 - No closures scheduled
  • Saturday 6/29 - No closures scheduled
  • Sunday 6/30 - No closures scheduled

This is a tentative schedule subject to change due to weather, heavy traffic, incidents or priority closures.

Facility: (I-695) FSK, Curtis Creek Drawbridge

(I-695) CURTIS CREEK DRAWBRIDGE OPENINGS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 24, 2013 

The (I-695) Curtis Creek Drawbridge will open for U.S. Coast Guard water traffic on June 24, 2013.  Drawbridge will remain open until water traffic passes beneath.

DRAWBRIDGE SCHEDULE:

  1. Monday, June 24 - 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

 NICE BRIDGE OFF-PEAK FLAGGING CONTINUES INTO AUGUST

 

(BALTIMORE, Md) -- The MD Transportation Authority's (MDTA) preservation project continues on the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge (US 301) across the Potomac River.  The ongoing project includes cleaning, painting and repair work that began earlier this spring.

The Nice Bridge will continue to be reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating northbound and southbound traffic during the following off-peak hours:

·         Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for approximately 45 days.

·         Saturday through Thursday with Saturday hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning and Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

Trucks greater than 10-feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during flagging operations. Every effort will be made to cross all vehicles exceeding 10-feet from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Drivers of vehicles exceeding the width restriction must call 301-259-4444 to obtain approval and schedule an escort.  Calls must be made one hour prior to arrival at the bridge and will only be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

When traveling through work zones:

·         Slow Down - Obey posted speed limits.

·         Be Courteous - Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.

·         Pay Attention to Work Zone Signs, Equipment and Flaggers - They help drivers move safely.

·         Avoid Distracted Driving - Devote your full attention to the road.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY CLOSURE

OF RAMP FROM SOUTHBOUND I-395 TO NORTHBOUND I-95

THIS WEEKEND

 

WHAT:            Weather permitting, the ramp in Baltimore City from southbound I-395 to northbound I-95 will be temporarily closed to traffic.

WHEN:           Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., the ramp from southbound I-395 to northbound I-95 is scheduled to be closed. 

                       The detour route will direct motorists to southbound I-95, to Caton Avenue (Exit 50), to northbound I-95.

WHY:              Crews will be performing bridge deck work.

Facility:           (I-95) JFK Hwy Tydings Bridge

 

CONCRETE POURS SCHEDULED FOR TYDINGS BRIDGE (I-95)
UNDERWATER REPAIRS ON JUNE 22 - 23

Work to result in construction-related noise and additional truck traffic

WHAT:  The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has scheduled concrete pours for foundation repair work on the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway (I-95).  Nearby residents, motorists, business owners and their customers may experience higher than normal levels of construction-related noise and additional truck traffic during this time.  The truck route is as follows:  I-95 to MD 222 (Perryville Road), to U.S. 40, to Coudon Boulevard, to MD 7 (Philadelphia Road), to Roundhouse Drive. 

WHEN:  Saturday, June 22, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23.  In the event of inclement weather or other variables, work also may be performed Saturday, June 29 through Sunday, June 30

WHY:  Work is part of a preservation project to perform underwater foundation (concrete piers/bridge supports) repairs to the Tydings Bridge and is necessary to secure the structural integrity of the bridge piers.

The nearly $43 million project is anticipated to be complete by late 2013.  A similar project to perform underwater foundation and substructure repairs to the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40) in Harford and Cecil counties began in April 2012.

OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES ON I-95 IN

WHITE MARSH TONIGHT

Closures part of I-95 Express Toll LanesSM Project

 

Weather permitting, the following closures are scheduled to take place Friday, June 14, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for crews to perform road repairs.

·               Two left lanes of southbound I-95 at the MD 43 interchange (White Marsh Boulevard) in Northeast Baltimore will be temporarily closed for overnight work. 

·               Two left lanes of northbound I-95 at the MD 43 interchange also will be temporarily closed for overnight work.

Traffic will still have access to the remaining two right lanes in both directions.

 

The work is part of the reconstruction of the I-95/MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard) interchange for the MD Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETLsSM) Project.

(I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Closure Info for:  June 17  through  June 21, 2013

The Eastbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of June 17, 18, 19 & 20, 2013, for tunnel line stripping, electrical maintenance and general maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00 a.m. the following morning.
