Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of June 16 - 22, 2013

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

 

The westbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. for preservation/maintenance work.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work. 

REMINDER: NEW lane markings and rumble strips have been installed on the westbound span.  Lane changes between the left and center lanes are PROHIBITED for the entire span. 

The MDTA offers the following travel tips for the summer months:

·        Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge on weekends include:

  •         Thursday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  •         Friday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  •         Saturday before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  •         Sunday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Facility: (I-695) FSK, Curtis Creek Drawbridge

(I-695) CURTIS CREEK DRAWBRIDGE OPENINGS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 18, 2013 

The (I-695) Curtis Creek Drawbridge will open for U.S. Coast Guard water traffic on June 18, 2013.  Drawbridge will remain open until water traffic passes beneath.

DRAWBRIDGE SCHEDULE:

 BOUCHELLE ROAD BRIDGE OVER I-95 CLOSURE CONTINUES INTO AUGUST

  

(BALTIMORE, Md) -- The MD Transportation Authority's (MDTA) preservation project continues on the Bouchelle Road bridge over I-95 in Cecil County, Md.  The ongoing project is for the bridge deck overlay and repair that began earlier this spring.  The previously anticipated completion date will be delayed by approximately 60 days due to the bridge deck having to be replaced instead of overlaid.  

The following detour routes will remain the same as originally instituted.  From the north, the detour route will direct motorists to Warburton Road, to MD 272 (North East Road), to US 40 (Pulaski Highway), to Mechanics Valley Road, to Bouchelle Road.  From the south, the detour route will direct motorists to Mechanics Valley Road, to US 40, to MD 272, to Warburton Road, to Bouchelle Road.

The Westbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evenings of June 10, 11 and 12, 2013, for priority lighting repairs and general maintenance operations.   Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:30 a.m. the following mornings.

The Eastbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of June 13, 2013, for electrical maintenance and general maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00 a.m. the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time with little notice due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents or priority closures.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT

CLOSURES & DETOURS OF I-695 NEAR KEY BRIDGE THIS SUNDAY

WHAT:           Weather permitting, all lanes on the INNER LOOP of I-695 at Cove Road and the OUTER LOOP of I-695 at MD 10 will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The INNER LOOP closure and detour will occur first followed by the OUTER LOOP closure and detour.                               

INNER LOOP I-695 detour: to Cove Road (Exit 41), to North Point Boulevard, to Bethlehem Boulevard, to I-695.

OUTER LOOP I-695 detour: to MD 10 (Exit 2), to Ordinance Road, to MD 10, to I-695.

 

WHEN:          INNER LOOP closure and detour on Sunday, June 9 from approximately  8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 OUTER LOOP closure and detour on Sunday, June 9 from approximately 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

WHY:              Crews will be installing overhead signs on the INNER LOOP and OUTER LOOP of I-695 on either side of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

(I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel Closures for the Week of June 10, 2013

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of 6/10/2013 through 6/16/2013:

  •  Monday 6/10 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 for Maintenance
  • Tuesday 6/11 - Bore 4 for Maintenance
  • Wednesday 6/12 - Bore 4 for Maintenance
  • Thursday 6/13 - Bore 4 for Maintenance
  • Friday 6/14 - No closures scheduled
  • Saturday 6/15 - No closures scheduled
  • Sunday 6/16 - No closures scheduled

This is a tentative schedule subject to change due to weather, heavy traffic, incidents or priority closures.

OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF I-95 IN

WHITE MARSH ON SATURDAY, JUNE 8

Closures part of I-95 Express Toll LanesSM Project

 

Weather permitting, the following closures are scheduled to take place Saturday, June 8, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for crews to perform structural steel removal. 

·               Two right lanes of southbound I-95 at the MD 43 interchange (White Marsh Boulevard) in Northeast Baltimore will be temporarily closed for overnight work.

·               The left lane of northbound I-95 at the MD 43 interchange also will be temporarily closed for overnight work.

 

The work is part of the reconstruction of the I-95/MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard) interchange for the MD Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETLsSM) Project.

CONCRETE POURS SCHEDULED FOR HATEM BRIDGE (US 40) UNDERWATER REPAIRS ON JUNE 8 - 9

Work to result in construction-related noise and additional truck traffic

 

WHAT:           The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has scheduled concrete pours for foundation repair work on the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40) in Harford and Cecil counties. Nearby residents, motorists, business owners and their customers may experience higher than normal levels of construction-related noise and additional truck traffic during this time.  The truck route is as follows:  Westbound US 40, to Otsego Street, to Water Street.

WHEN:           Saturday, June 8, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9.  In the event of inclement weather or other variables, work also may be performed Saturday, June 15 through Sunday, June 16.

WHY:              Work is part of a preservation project to perform underwater foundation (concrete piers/bridge supports) repairs to the Hatem Bridge and is necessary to secure the structural integrity of the bridge piers.

The nearly $48 million project is anticipated to be complete by fall 2014.  A similar project to perform underwater foundation and substructure repairs to the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway (Interstate 95) began in October 2011.
