Bay Bridge (US 50/301) Lane Closures
and Traffic Patterns
Scheduled for the
Week of August 18 - 24, 2013

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

The westbound span may be closed  Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Monday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work. 

Monday through Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., the right lane of the westbound span will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.  Weather-permitting, two-way operations will not be implemented until after the westbound right lane opens to traffic.

The MDTA offers the following travel tips for the summer months:

  • Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge on weekends include:
    • Friday - before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
    • Saturday - before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
    • Sunday - before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

KEY BRIDGE SERVICE ROAD CLOSED FOR TWO WEEKS

WHAT: Weather permitting, the Service Road just past the Francis Scott Key Bridge toll plaza (I-695) that allows vehicles to access Broening Highway from the Inner Loop, and to access the Outer Loop from Broening Highway, will be closed for two weeks.

The detour route will direct Inner Loop traffic across the Key Bridge, to Quarantine Road (Exit 1), to Outer Loop, to Broening Highway (Exit 44).  A free "turnaround pass" will be provided to motorists using this detour.

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 16, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.

WHY: Crews will be making improvements to the Service Road as part of the MD Transportation Authority's (MDTA) $1.6 million preservation project.

**UPDATE**

NORTHBOUND I-97 TO NORTHBOUND I-895

RAMP REOPENS

Detours have been lifted

 

(BALTIMORE, MD) -- The MD Transportation Authority's (MDTA) ramp from northbound I-97 to northbound I-895 in Anne Arundel County is now open to traffic.  The ramp previously closed on May 12 for a bridge deck overlay and repair project on I-895.

A cleaning and painting project for various bridges along I-895 is expected to be complete this fall.  The ongoing deck replacement project for the I-895 bridges over Patapsco Avenue, Potee Street and Hanover Street in Baltimore City is expected to be complete by summer 2014.

TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURE OF RAMP FROM

NORTHBOUND I-95 TO WHITE MARSH BOULEVARD

 

WHAT:           Weather-permitting, Exit 67A (eastbound White Marsh Boulevard) from northbound I-95 in Northeast Baltimore will be temporarily closed to traffic. Electronic message signs will notify motorists of the closure and detour.

The detour route will direct motorists to Exit 67B (westbound White Marsh Boulevard), to a u-turn at Honeygo Boulevard onto eastbound White Marsh Boulevard. 

WHEN:           Monday, August 12, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. the following morning.  

WHY:              Emergency guardrail repair due to an accident that occurred last week.

**UPDATED SCHEDULE**

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF RAMP FROM

SOUTHBOUND MD 151 TO SOUTHBOUND I-895

THIS WEEK

 

 

WHAT:            Weather permitting, the ramp in Baltimore City from southbound MD 151 (Erdman Avenue) to southbound I-895 will be temporarily closed to traffic for cleaning and painting.

 

WHEN:           Monday, August 12, through Saturday, August 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from southbound MD 151 (Erdman Avenue) to southbound I-895 is scheduled to be closed.

                

The detour route will continue to direct motorists to eastbound US 40, to westbound Moravia Road, to southbound I-895.

 

WHY:              The work is part of the MD Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) $1.9 million preservation project to clean and paint the structural steel on 10 overpass ramps and bridges along the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Thruway (I-895).

(I-695) CURTIS CREEK DRAWBRIDGE OPENINGS SCHEDULED FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 12, 2013

The (I-695) Curtis Creek Drawbridge will open for U.S. Coast Guard water traffic on August 12 - 16, 2013.  Drawbridge will remain open until water traffic passes beneath.

DRAWBRIDGE SCHEDULE:

  1. Tuesday, August 13 - 9:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
  2. Wednesday, August 14 - 12:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
  3. Thursday, August 15 - 9:00 a.m.
  4. Friday, August 16 - 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES ON I-95

IN NORTHEAST BALTIMORE

THIS SUNDAY

 

WHAT:             Weather permitting, the left lane of northbound I-95 and two left lanes of southbound I-95 between I-695 and I-895 in Northeast Baltimore will be temporarily closed to traffic during off-peak hours.

 WHEN:           Sunday, August 11, from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m.

WHY:               Crews will be testing various access points for the I-95 Express Toll Lanes under construction in this area.

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

(I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Closures for the Week of August 12, 2013

The Eastbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of August 12, 13, 14 and 15, 2013, for tunnel line stripping, electrical maintenance and general maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00 a.m. the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time with little notice due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents or priority closures.

(I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel Closures for the Week of August 12, 2013

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of August 12, 2013 through August 18, 2013:

  • Monday 8/12 - Bore 4  for Tunnel Maintenance
  • Tuesday 8/13 - Bore 2 & Bore 4  for Tunnel Maintenance
  • Wednesday 8/14 - Bore 4 for Tunnel Maintenance
  • Thursday 8/15 - Bore 1 for Tunnel Maintenance
  • Friday 8/16 - Bore 4 for Tunnel Maintenance
  • Saturday 8/17 - Bore 4 for Tunnel Maintenance

This is a tentative schedule subject to change due to weather, heavy traffic, incidents or priority closures. Please contact me if you have any questions or requests.
