Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

(I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Closures for the Week of September 30, 2013

The Eastbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of September 30 and October 1, 2013, for maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

The Westbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of October 2 and 3, 2013, for maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time with little notice due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents or priority closures.

Bay Bridge (US 50/301)

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Sept. 29 - Oct. 5, 2013

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

The westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. 

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 5, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span.  Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lanes 6 or 9.

Monday through Thursday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

(I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel Closures for the Week of September 30, 2013

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of September 30, 2013 through October 6, 2013:

  • Monday 9/30 - Bore 3 for maintenance operations
  • Tuesday 10/01 - Bore 3 for maintenance operations
  • Wednesday 10/02 - Bore 3 for maintenance operations                                  
  • Thursday 10/03 - Bore 3 for maintenance operations
  •  Friday 10/04 - No Closures
  •  Saturday 10/05 - No Closures

·        Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge this weekend include:

  •          Friday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  •          Saturday before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  •          Sunday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

CONTINUOUS CLOSURE OF RAMP FROM

SOUTHBOUND I-895 TO POTEE STREET (EXIT 7)

WHAT:           The entrance ramp from Potee Street/Patapsco Avenue to northbound I-895 in Baltimore City will reopen to traffic.

                        The exit ramp from southbound I-895 to Potee Street (Exit 7) in Baltimore City will be continuously closed (24/7).  The detour route will direct motorists from southbound I-895, to northbound I-695 (Exit 3; Inner Loop), to Washington Boulevard (Exit 10), to Patapsco Avenue, to Potee Street.

WHEN:           The entrance ramp from Potee Street/Patapsco Avenue to northbound I-895 is scheduled to reopen Saturday, Sept. 21, weather permitting. 

                        The exit ramp from southbound I-895 to Potee Street (Exit 7) will close Saturday, Sept. 28, weather permitting.  The exit ramp is expected to reopen in early 2014.

WHY:              Repairs to the I-895 Potee Street and Patapsco Avenue entrance and exit ramps are part of the MD Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) $12.6 million facility preservation project to replace the decks of the I-895 bridges over Patapsco Avenue, Potee Street and Hanover Street.  Northbound and southbound I-895 lanes are reduced to 10.5 feet (left lane) and 11.5 feet (right lane) throughout project.

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of September 23, 2013 through September 29, 2013:

  • Monday 9/23 - Bore 1 for maintenance operations
  • Tuesday 9/24 - Bore 1 for maintenance operations
  • Wednesday 9/25 - Bore 1 for maintenance operations                                  
  • Thursday 9/25 - Bore 1 for maintenance operations
  •  Friday 9/27 - No Closures
  •  Saturday 9/28 - No Closures

(I-695) CURTIS CREEK DRAWBRIDGE OPENINGS SCHEDULED FOR SEPT. 20 - 23, 2013

The (I-695) Curtis Creek Drawbridge will open for U.S. Coast Guard water traffic on Sept. 20 - 23, 2013.  Drawbridge will remain open until water traffic passes beneath.

DRAWBRIDGE SCHEDULE:

  1. Friday, Sept. 20 - 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  2. Saturday, Sept. 21 - 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  3. Sunday, Sept. 22 - 9 a.m. and 12 noon
  4. Monday, Sept. 23 - 11:30 a.m.

FORT MCHENRY TUNNEL 5K RUN/WALK ON SUNDAY, SEPT. 15 TO BENEFIT SPECIAL OLYMPICS MARYLAND

Minimal Delays Expected During Off-Peak Closures and 5K Event

                        

WHAT:           The northbound right tube (Bore 4) of the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) will be closed temporarily for this weekends Fort McHenry Tunnel 5K Run/Walk.  Barriers will separate vehicular traffic from runners in the toll plaza area during the event.                           

WHEN:           Saturday, Sept. 14, at approximately 7 p.m., Bore 4 will close to vehicular traffic.  All northbound traffic will be directed through Bore 3.  Bore 4 is scheduled to reopen to traffic by 12 noon on Sunday, Sept. 15.

In addition, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Keith Avenue (Exit 56) will be closed during this timeframe. The detour route will direct motorists on northbound I-95 to Boston Street (Exit 57), to southbound I-95, to Keith Avenue.

ROUTINE INSPECTIONS TO RESULT IN

TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES AND ALTERNATING TRAFFIC ON NICE BRIDGE

BEGINNING MID-SEPTEMBER

 

WHAT:           Weather permitting, one lane of the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge (US 301) will be temporarily closed to traffic.  Traffic will alternate in the open lane during these closures. 

WHEN:           From approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, beginning Sept. 16 and continuing for approximately two months.                           

WHY:              Crews will be conducting annual bridge inspections.                    

Drivers may observe equipment like “Snooper” trucks on the bridge as well as inspectors climbing and moving over the structure.

Trucks greater than 10-feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during flagging operations.  Every effort will be made to cross all vehicles exceeding 10-feet from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Drivers of vehicles exceeding the width restriction must call 301-259-4444 to obtain approval and schedule an escort.  Calls must be made one hour prior to arrival at the bridge and will only be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Reminder:  The ongoing preservation project continues overnight flagging hours Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

When traveling through work zones:

·         Slow Down – Obey posted speed limits.

·         Be Courteous – Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.

·         Pay Attention to Work Zone Signs, Equipment and Flaggers – They help drivers move safely.

·         Avoid Distracted Driving – Devote your full attention to the road.
