Oversized Empty Tank to Travel I-95 to Harford County Tonight; Motorists May Encounter Minor Delays Overnight

Area agencies will assist with an overnight move of an oversized empty storage tank from the Port of Baltimore to the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in Pennsylvania tonight.  Baltimore City Police Department (BCPD), Maryland Transportation Authority Police(MDTAP), the Maryland State Police (MSP), the State Highway Administration (SHA) and Harford County agencies are assisting the oversized vehicle moving  through Maryland beginning 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, March 10 and ending 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, March 11.

Beginning 7 p.m., an oversized transporter vehicle will haul the 105-foot long, 346,000-pound wide load from the Port of Baltimore to I-95 Exit 57 with a BCPD Police escort.  Beginning 11 p.m., the vehicle, operated by private contractor Guy M. Turner, Inc., and MDTAP and MSP escort vehicles will move 35 - 45 mph along the following route:

I-95 North (John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway)

I-95 Exit 89 MD 155 West

MD 155 West (Level Road)

MD 161 North (Darlington Road)

US 1 South (Conowingo Road)

MD 136 North (Whiteford Road)

MD 165 North (Pylesville Road) to the Maryland Pennsylvania line.

The vehicle is slated to arrive at the I-95/MD 155 interchange at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday and the Pennsylvania State Line/PA 74 (Delta Road) at approximately 4 a.m.   At that point, Pennsylvania State Police will escort the vehicle to Peach Bottom.

All Maryland state highways will remain open during the move; however, police may stop all oncoming traffic at intersections and bridges to enable the vehicle to pass through.   The transporter vehicle will travel 5 mph over all bridges.
