Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

(I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Lane Closures for the Week of June 2, 2014

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00 p.m. is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evening of June 2 and June 3, 2014  for maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00 a.m. the following morning.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00 p.m. on the evening of June 4 and 5, 2014  for maintenance operations.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4 a.m. the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time with little notice due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.

Bay Bridge (US 50/301)

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of June 1 - 7, 2014 

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

 

REMINDER:  MANDATORY HEADLIGHT USE AREA signs have been installed.  Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

 

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

The westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 5, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span.  Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lanes 6 or 9.

Monday through Thursday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up. 

The MDTA offers the following travel tips for the summer months:

·         Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge on weekends include:

  •          Friday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  •          Saturday before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  •          Sunday before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

SPLIT TRAFFIC BEGINS THROUGH WORK ZONE
ON SOUTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE CITY
Major New Traffic Pattern By Saturday Morning

I-95 Work Zone Traffic Pattern

 

WHAT: Weather permitting, three traffic lanes will split around the work zone on southbound I-95 between MD 295 and the I-395 on-ramp: one lane to the left and two lanes to the right.

Monday through Friday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., southbound I-95 traffic  will be reduced to two lanes: one lane to the left and one to the right to allow   two lanes on southbound I-395 exiting Baltimore City.  Southbound I-395   will have one lane open at all other times.

WHEN: Friday, May 30 (starting after 9 p.m.) through Sunday, June 15.   All dates and times are approximate and dependent on weather.

Please note that additional changes in traffic patterns will occur on   northbound and southbound I-95 throughout the summer.  Beginning   June 15, the ramp from southbound I-395 to southbound I-95 will be reduced to one lane continuously (24/7) for approximately two months.

WHY:  The new traffic patterns are part of the Maryland Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) two-year, $66 million project to remove and replace  the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline  I-95 and the ramps serving I-95 in Baltimore City.

REMINDER: The speed limit on northbound I-95 between the Fort McHenry Tunnel and north of Caton Avenue (Exit 50) and on southbound I-95 between I-395 (Exit 53) to just past the MD 295 entrance ramp was reduced from 55 mph to 50 mph.  Allow for more travel time in your commute.

OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF I-95 IN WHITE MARSH

FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 31-JUNE 5

Closures part of I-95 Express Toll LanesSM Project

  

WHAT: Weather permitting, all lanes of southbound or northbound I-95 at the MD 43 interchange (White Marsh Boulevard) in Northeast Baltimore will be temporarily closed for overnight work.  Traffic will be detoured to Exit 67 (eastbound White Marsh Boulevard), to eastbound MD 7 (Philadelphia Road), to westbound White Marsh Boulevard, to southbound or northbound I-95.

 

WHEN: The southbound closures will occur on Saturday, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning and Monday and Tuesday, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. The northbound closures will occur on Wednesday and Thursday, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. 

 

WHY: Crews will be erecting steel as part of the reconstruction of the I-95/MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard) interchange for the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETLSM) Project.

WORK TO RESULT IN OVERNIGHT CLOSURE OF

WESTBOUND O'DONNELL STREET CUTOFF NEXT WEEK

 

WHAT:          Weather permitting, westbound O'Donnell Street Cutoff between Interstate Avenue and O'Donnell Street will be closed temporarily to traffic.  Traffic will be detoured to Interstate Avenue, to O'Donnell Street. 

WHEN:          Tuesday, May 27, through Thursday, May 29, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY:              Crews will be cleaning and painting.

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of May 19, 2014 through May 25, 2014:

  • Monday 5/19 - No Closures Scheduled
  • Tuesday 5/20 - Bore 2 closed for maintenance operations
  • Wednesday 5/21 -  Bore 2 closed for mainenance operations

(I-695) CURTIS CREEK DRAWBRIDGE OPENINGS SCHEDULED FOR THE WEEK OF May 17, 2014

The (I-695) Curtis Creek Drawbridge will open for U.S. Coast Guard water traffic on May 17, 2014.  Drawbridge will remain open until water traffic passes beneath.
