Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

I-895 Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Closures for the week of December 8, 2014

The EASTBOUND Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of December 8 & 9, 2014 for annual inspection, fan testing, and roadway sweeping.  Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following mornings.

 The WESTBOUND Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of December 10 & 11, 2014 annual inspection, fan testing, and rub rail repairs on the exit portal ramp. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following mornings.

This is a tentative schedule subject to change due to weather, heavy traffic, incidents or priority closures.

Facility: (I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel

(I-95) Fort McHenry Tunnel Closures for the Week of December 8, 2014

The following closures are tentatively scheduled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel the week of December 8, 2014 through December 14, 2014:

  • Monday 12/08 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 closed for maintenance operations
  • Tuesday 12/09 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 closed for maintenance operations
  • Wednesday 12/10 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 closed for mainenance operations
  • Thursday 12/11 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 closed for mainenance operations
  •  Friday 12/12 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 closed for maintenance operations
  •  Saturday 12/13 - Bore 2 and Bore 3 closed for maintenance operations
  • Sunday 12/14 No Closures Sheduled

Bay Bridge (US 50/301)

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

 Scheduled for the Week of Dec. 7 - 13, 2014

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

 

 

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures. 

The westbound span may be closed Saturday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for preservation/maintenance work.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 4, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span.  Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lane 9.

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up. 

Note:  Concrete repair and replacement project underway at Bay Bridge toll plaza.  Lanes 6-8 and associated toll booths remain continuously (24/7) closed.  Pay attention to overhead and portable electronic signs.

 NEW TRAFFIC PATTERNS ON I-95 & I-895 IN PREPARATION FOR I-95 ETL OPENING ON DEC. 6

WHAT: Weather-permitting, new traffic patterns will take effect for I-95 and I-895 motorists where the future northbound and southbound I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) merge to I-95 and I-895.

Starting Dec. 4, drivers on northbound I-95 will notice an added left lane where the northbound I-95 ETL will end near Cowenton Avenue. The right lane on northbound I-95 will end approximately one mile north.  Drivers on southbound I-895 will notice an added left lane near Moravia Road where southbound I-95 ETL traffic will exit onto I-895. Similarly, the right lane on southbound I-895 will end about one quarter mile south.                   

Drivers also will see crews uncovering the advance I-95 ETL signs throughout the corridor.

WHEN: The traffic pattern changes will occur on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and will be in effect Thursday, Dec. 4.  Crews will begin uncovering the advance I-95 ETL signs over the next few days.

WHY: The new traffic patterns and sign uncovering are in preparation for the full opening of the I-95 ETL to traffic on Saturday, Dec. 6, by 6 a.m.

ROUTINE INSPECTIONS TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF RAMP FROM NORTHBOUND I-95 TO

KEITH AVENUE THIS SATURDAY

 

WHAT:          Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Keith Avenue (Exit 56) will be closed temporarily to traffic.

                        The detour route will direct motorists to ODonnell Street (Exit 57), to Interstate Avenue, to southbound I-95, to Keith Avenue (Exit 56).

WHEN:          Saturday, Dec. 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHY:             Inspectors will be conducting routine annual facility inspections.

·         Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge this week:

  •   Daily before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.

CONCRETE REPAIR & TOLL BOOTH REPLACEMENT WORK CONTINUES AT BAY BRIDGE TOLL PLAZA

Toll Lanes # 6-8 Will Close 24/7 For Work

 

WHAT:           Toll lanes 6-8 and the associated toll booths at the Bay Bridge toll plaza (eastbound US 50) will be continuously (24/7) closed and toll booth lanes 9-11 (the three right lanes) will reopen to traffic.  The detour for truck permit loads will be over with the opening of toll lanes 9-11, and permit loads will use toll lane 11.  Motorists should use the remaining open toll lanes and booths to the left and right of toll lanes 6-8.  Trucks should use the three right toll lanes.  Pay attention to overhead and portable electronic signs.

WHEN:           Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 9 p.m. and continuing for approximately eight weeks.  Toll lanes 6-8 will remain closed.  Toll lanes 9-11 will reopen by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

WHY:              Toll Dollars At Work.  The toll booth lane closures are part of two Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) projects.  One is the $4.5 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete pavement on the approach to the Bay Bridge toll plaza along eastbound US 50.  The second is the $4.8 million project to replace the toll booths at the Bay Bridge toll plaza.  Both projects are expected to be complete in spring 2015.
