Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Nov. 15 – 21, 2015

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The westbound span may be closed Sunday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Friday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for preservation/maintenance work.  

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of Nov. 15-19, 2015 for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURE OF RAMP FROM SOUTHBOUND I-95 TO MD 295 IN BALTIMORE CITY THIS SUNDAY

 

 

WHAT: The ramp from southbound I-95 to MD 295 (Exit 52) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to I-695 (Exit 49A), to southbound MD 295 (Exit 7A).

WHEN: Weather permitting, Sunday, Nov. 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16.

WHY: Crews will be performing concrete repairs.

OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF OUTER LOOP I-695 RAMPS CONTINUE IN NORTHEAST BALTIMORE

 WHAT: The ramp from the Outer Loop of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695 West) to northbound US 1 (Exit 32B/Bel Air Road) will close overnight.  The detour will direct motorists to Exit 32A (southbound US 1), to I-695 East (Inner Loop), to Exit 32B (northbound US 1).

The ramp from northbound I-95 to I-695 West (Outer Loop) will close overnight.  The detour will direct motorists to I-695 East (Inner Loop), to Exit 35B (eastbound US 40), to I-695 West (Outer Loop).

WHEN: Weather permitting, the ramp closures will occur Sunday, Nov. 8, through Thursday, Nov. 12, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The ramp closures are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) I-95 Improvement Project With Express    Toll Lanes (ETL).  The current work at the I-95/I-695 interchange will reconstruct and realign I-695 from US 1 to MD 7 (Philadelphia Road).  The project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2016.

The eastbound span will be closed temporarily to traffic Sunday from approximately 12:01 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the “Across the Bay 10K” running event.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.  Motorists should anticipate delays and are urged to travel prior to 6 a.m. or after 6 p.m.   For additional information on the event, visit bridgerace.com.

ROUTINE INSPECTIONS TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY RAMP CLOSURES IN BALTIMORE CITY THIS WEEKEND

 

 

WHAT:          The ramp from northbound I-95 to Russell Street (Exit 52) will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The detour route will direct motorists to I-395 (Exit 53), to Lee Street, to Russell Street.

The ramp from northbound Russell Street to northbound Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The detour route will direct motorists to Washington Boulevard, to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

WHEN:          Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Russell Street (Exit 52) will be closed Saturday, Nov. 7, from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound Russell Street to northbound Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed Sunday, Nov. 8, from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHY:             Inspectors will be conducting routine annual facility inspections.

“ACROSS THE BAY 10K” TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF BAY BRIDGE’S EASTBOUND SPAN

Motorists Should Anticipate Heavy Traffic & Delays on Nov. 8

WHAT: Weather permitting, the eastbound span of the Bay Bridge (US 50/301) will be closed temporarily to traffic.

Two-way traffic operations will be in place on the westbound span. One lane of traffic will operate in each direction on the westbound span, with the center lane closed to traffic.  NOTE: The center lane may open to traffic intermittently to help reduce westbound delays.

In addition, two detours will be in place on the Eastern Shore due to the race:

  • The off-ramp from eastbound US 50 to MD 8 will be closed during the event. A detour will be in place to direct motorists to the next exit at Thompson Creek Road. From there, motorists will travel westbound on MD 835 to the signal at MD 8.
  • The on-ramp from MD 8 to westbound US 50 also will be closed during the event. All traffic attempting to access westbound US 50 will be directed to MD 18, to the roundabout at Castle Marina Road and onto westbound US 50.

WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 8, from approximately 12:01 a.m. – 2 p.m.

WHY: The “Across the Bay 10K” running event will be held on the eastbound span. For additional information on the event, visit bridgerace.com.

Motorists using the Bay Bridge on Nov. 8 will experience significant delays throughout the day. To avoid delays, motorists are urged to travel prior to 6 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

TRAFFIC SHIFT AND WEEKEND LEFT LANE CLOSURE ON

I-395 LEAVING BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT: All traffic lanes on southbound I-395 (leaving Baltimore City) will shift to the right of the work area between the Howard Street on-ramp and the I-95 split.

The left lane on southbound I-395 will be temporarily closed between the Howard Street on-ramp and the I-95 split.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the southbound I-395 shift will be in effect by Tuesday, Nov. 3, for approximately two weeks.

Weather permitting, the southbound I-395 left lane closure will occur Friday, Nov. 6, at 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The traffic shift and lane closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.
