Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

(I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Lane Closures for the Week of Dec. 13, 2015

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of Dec. 13 - 17, 2015 for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.

WEEKEND CLOSURE OF I-395 TO HOWARD STREET

ENTERING BALTIMORE CITY

No access to Howard & Conway Streets from I-395; all traffic directed to MLK Blvd.

 

WHAT: The portion of northbound I-395 (entering Baltimore City) to Howard Street will be closed temporarily.  All traffic will be directed to the exit ramp for Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. 

The detour will direct motorists to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, to Pratt Street, to Howard Street.  Inner Harbor traffic use Pratt Street.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the northbound I-395 closure will be in effect Friday, Dec. 11, at 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.  The current work on I-395 involves replacing the roadway joints.

ORIGINAL TRAFFIC PATTERN RETURNS TO

OUTER LOOP I-695 IN SOUTHEAST BALTIMORE

Temporary right lane closures this week

 

WHAT: The right lane on the Outer Loop of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) will be closed temporarily from Exit 1 (Quarantine Road) to the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

All lanes on the Outer Loop I-695 will return to the original traffic configuration.  No split traffic or traffic shifts in effect.

NOTE: All lanes on the Inner Loop of I-695 remain shifted to the left from the Key Bridge to Exit 1.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the Outer Loop right lane closure will be in effect Wednesday, Dec. 9, and Thursday, Dec. 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

All lanes on the Outer Loop will return to the original traffic configuration by Friday, Dec. 11.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The lane closure and traffic shift are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) $5.5 million bridge deck overlay and repair project for the bridges carrying I-695 over Dock Road and CSX Railroad in Baltimore.  Lane closures are expected to end in fall 2015, and the project is anticipated to be complete in fall 2016.

ROUTINE INSPECTIONS TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY RAMP CLOSURES IN BALTIMORE CITY THIS SATURDAY

 

WHAT:          The ramp from southbound I-95 to MD 295 (Exit 52) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to I-695 (Exit 49A), to southbound MD 295 (Exit 7A).

The ramp from Hanover Street to southbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to eastbound McComas Street, to a u-turn onto westbound McComas Street, to southbound I-95.            

The ramp from southbound I-95 to Keith Avenue (Exit 56) will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The detour route will direct motorists to O’Donnell Street (Exit 57), to Interstate Avenue, to Boston Street, to Clinton Street, to Keith Avenue.

The ramp from Keith Avenue to southbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The detour route will direct motorists to northbound I-95, to Boston Street, to southbound I-95.

WHEN:          Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound I-95 to MD 295 (Exit 52) and the ramp from Hanover Street to southbound I-95 will be closed Saturday, Dec. 12, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound I-95 to Keith Avenue (Exit 56) and the ramp from Keith Avenue to southbound I-95 will be closed Saturday, Dec. 12, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHY:             Inspectors will be conducting routine annual facility inspections.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURE OF I-695 OUTER LOOP IN NORTHEAST BALTIMORE

 

 

WHAT:          All lanes of westbound I-695 (OUTER LOOP) at I-95 (Exit 33) will be closed.  Traffic will be detoured to northbound I-95 (Exit 33), to eastbound MD 43 (Exit 67, White Marsh Boulevard), to eastbound MD 7, to westbound MD 43, to southbound I-95, to westbound I-695 (Exit 64).

WHEN:          Weather permitting, Monday, Dec. 7, from midnight to 4 a.m. the following morning

WHY:             Crews will be moving heavy construction equipment as part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) I-95 Improvement Project with Express Toll Lanes (ETL).  The current work at the I-95/I-695 interchange will reconstruct and realign I-695 from US 1 to MD 7 (Philadelphia Road).  The project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2016.

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Dec. 6 - 12, 2015

All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The westbound span may be closed Sunday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Tuesday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Friday from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

The eastbound span may be closed Monday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for preservation/maintenance work.

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

WEEKEND RIGHT LANE CLOSURE ON SOUTHBOUND I-895

Lane closure south of Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

 

WHAT: The right lane on southbound I-895 between the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel toll plaza and Exit 7 (MD 2/Potee Street) will be temporarily closed.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the southbound I-895 lane closure will be in effect Friday, Dec. 4, at 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The lane closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) $6.1 million project to repair the K-Truss approach span. The project is expected to be complete in summer 2016.

OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF OUTER LOOP I-695 RAMPS IN NORTHEAST BALTIMORE FOR THE WEEK OF DEC. 6

 

WHAT:    The ramp from the Outer Loop of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695 West) to northbound US 1 (Exit 32B/Bel Air Road) will close overnight.  The detour will direct motorists to Exit 32A (southbound US 1), to I-695 East (Inner Loop), to Exit 32B (northbound US 1).

The ramp from northbound I-95 to I-695 West (Outer Loop) will close overnight.  The detour will direct motorists to I-695 East (Inner Loop), to Exit 35B (eastbound US 40), to I-695 West (Outer Loop).

WHEN:    Weather permitting, the ramp closures will occur Sunday, Dec. 6, through Thursday, Dec. 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
