WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF RAMP FROM SOUTHBOUND I-95 TO NORTHBOUND I-395 IN BALTIMORE CITY

DURING SEPTEMBER

 

WHAT: The ramp from southbound I-95 to northbound I-395 (Exit 53) will be closed temporarily to traffic.

The detour route will direct motorists to Caton Avenue (Exit 50), to northbound I-95, to northbound I-395 (Exit 53).

WHEN: Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound I-95 to Exit 53 will be closed Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning. The ramp will also be closed Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning. In the event of inclement weather or other variables, work also may be performed Monday, Sept. 28.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The ramp closures are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Sept. 20 – 26, 2015

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The westbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Thursday and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work. 

Monday through Wednesday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

Note:   Due to Sunfest in Ocean City, Md., motorists should expect higher than normal traffic volumes Thursday, Sept. 24, through Sunday, Sept. 27.  The MDTA encourages motorists to travel off-peak.  The best times to travel this weekend are:

  • Friday – before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  • Saturday – before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  • Sunday – before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of Sept. 21, 22 and 23, 2015 for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.
