Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of Nov. 30 - Dec. 1, 2016, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF INNER LOOP I-695 RAMPS IN NORTHEAST BALTIMORE

 

WHAT: The ramps from northbound I-95 and southbound I-95 to I-695 East (Inner Loop) will be closed overnight. The detour will direct motorists to I-695 West (Outer Loop), to southbound US 1 (Exit 32A), to I-695 East (Inner Loop).

WHEN: Weather permitting, Monday, Nov. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 1, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Crews will be paving the roadway as part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) I-95 Improvement Project with Express Toll Lanes (ETL). The current work at the I-95/I-695 interchange will reconstruct and realign I-695 from US 1 to MD 7 (Philadelphia Road). The project is anticipated to be complete in fall 2016.

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Nov. 28 – Dec. 3, 2016

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Friday from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for preservation/maintenance work.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 5, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span.  Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lanes 6 or 9. 

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evening of Nov. 21, 2016 for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

MDTA will lift construction-related temporary lane closures at its facilities from 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28 for the holiday.

WHAT: All lanes of eastbound I-695 (INNER LOOP) at I-95 (Exit 33) will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to northbound I-95 (Exit 33), to eastbound MD 43 (Exit 67, White Marsh Boulevard), to eastbound MD 7, to westbound MD 43, to southbound I-95, to eastbound I-695 (Exit 64).

I-95 ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS STUDY FOR

BALTIMORE’S PORT COVINGTON AREA

WHAT: The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) and the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (Baltimore City DOT) are holding two public open houses this week. 

Join us to learn more about the I-95 Access Improvements Study, to provide input and to review alternative options for infrastructure improvements.

WHY: The MDTA and the Baltimore City DOT are studying proposed transportation improvements to support existing and planned development in the Port Covington area.  The improvements being studied are meant to ensure that the I-95 corridor and major local roads, including Hanover Street, McComas Street and Key Highway, will continue to connect people to where they live, work and play in an efficient manner.
