ROUTINE INSPECTIONS TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF CATON AVENUE RAMPS TO NORTHBOUND I-95 THIS WEDNESDAY

 

WHAT: The ramps from Caton Avenue to northbound I-95 in Baltimore City will be closed temporarily to traffic.

From northbound Caton Avenue, the detour route will direct motorists to southbound I-95, to INNER LOOP I-695 (Exit 49B), to Wilkens Avenue (Exit 12C), to OUTER LOOP I-695 to northbound I-95 (Exit 11A).

From southbound Caton Avenue, the detour route will direct motorists to Bloede Avenue, to Bloomfield Avenue, to Joh Avenue, to Caton Avenue, to northbound I-95.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound Caton Avenue to northbound I-95 will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound Caton Avenue to northbound I-95 will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 4, from midnight to 4 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Inspectors will be conducting routine sign inspections.

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Jan. 3 - 7, 2017

All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The westbound span may be closed Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closure.

The eastbound span may be closed Wednesday and Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning Friday from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for preservation/maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 5, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span. Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lanes 6 or 9.

Tuesday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

For Immediate Release

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evening of Jan. 1, 2017, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9:00pm on the evenings of Jan. 4-5, 2017, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4:00am on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.
