Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Oct. 22 – 28, 2017

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

The westbound span may be closed Friday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for preservation/maintenance work. 

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF RAMP FROM SOUTHBOUND I-95 TO

O’DONNELL STREET IN BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT:          The ramp from southbound I-95 to O’Donnell Street (Exit 57) will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The detour will direct motorists to Keith Avenue (Exit 56), to northbound I-95, to O’Donnell Street (Exit 57).

WHEN:          Weather permitting, Monday, Oct. 23, through Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.  

WHY:             Toll Dollars At Work. Crews will close the ramp to pour foundations as part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) $13.7 million project to remove and replace weathering steel high-mast light poles along I-95 in Baltimore.

REMINDER:

WORK CONTINUES ON WESTBOUND

BAY BRIDGE SUSPENSION SPAN

Increased Cable Work May Be Visible to Travelers

 

WHAT: Motorists may notice an increase in the number of workers on the westbound Bay Bridge (US 50/301) suspension cables. Crews are working on the cables and also accessing the tops of the towers via the cables. Work occurs around the clock, however, any lane closures associated with the work take place during regularly-scheduled, off-peak temporary daytime and night-time lane closures.

WHEN: The project began in summer 2016 and is expected to be complete in summer 2018.

WHY: The work is part of the MDTA's $29.6 million rehabilitation project for the westbound Bay Bridge suspension span. The project is part of the MDTA's $273 million system preservation and safety investment at the Bay Bridge over the next six years.

 

The MDTA encourages motorists to drive carefully around all work zones. Drivers should pay attention to electronic and static signs for up-to-date traffic patterns. And remember, headlights ON when crossing the bridge.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY WEEKEND

CLOSURES OF RAMPS FROM CATON AVENUE TO NORTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT: The ramp from southbound Caton Avenue to northbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour will direct motorists to Washington Boulevard (US 1 ALT), to I-695 West (Inner Loop), to northbound I-95 (Exit 11A).

The ramp from northbound Caton Avenue to northbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour will direct motorists to Benson Avenue, to Joh Avenue, to Caton Avenue, to Washington Boulevard (US 1 ALT), to I-695 West (Inner Loop), to northbound I-95 (Exit 11A).

WHEN: Weather permitting, Sunday, Oct. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHY: Crews will be performing annual inspections.

SOUTHBOUND I-95 TO MD 295 IN BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT: The ramp from southbound I-95 to southbound MD 295 (Exit 52) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to I-695 East (Outer Loop), to southbound MD 295 (Exit 7A).

WHEN: Weather permitting, Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Crews will be performing bridge welding.

Two lanes of the westbound span may be closed Sunday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Monday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.

The eastbound span may be closed Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Friday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.

One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for preservation/maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 5, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span. Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lanes 6 or 9.

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

For Immediate Release

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evenings of Oct. 16-17, 2017, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4 a.m. on the following morning.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evenings of Oct. 18-19, 2017, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4 a.m. on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.

CLOSURE OF RAMP FROM SOUTHBOUND RUSSELL STREET TO SOUTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT:          The ramp from southbound Russell Street to southbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to the first ramp toward Westport, to Manokin Street, to Tacoma Street, to northbound MD 295 (Russell Street), to I-395, to southbound I-95.

WHEN:          Weather permitting, Saturday, Oct. 14, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHY:             Crews will be performing annual inspections.

WHEN: Weather permitting, Thursday, Oct. 12, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Crews will be performing pothole repairs.
