PAVING OPERATIONS ON BROENING HIGHWAY AT

I-695 TO RESULT IN OVERNIGHT

FLAGGING OPERATIONS

 

WHAT: Broening Highway from Authority Drive to just past the Avon Beach Road traffic light will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating traffic during off-peak hours.

WHEN: Weather permitting, Friday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept. 20, through Saturday, Sept. 23, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Crews will be grinding and paving the roadway.

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Sept. 17 - 23, 2017

 

All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.

Monday through Thursday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

Note: Due to Sunfest in Ocean City, Md., motorists should expect higher than normal traffic volumes Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 24. The MDTA encourages motorists to travel off-peak. The best times to travel this weekend are:

  • Friday - before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  • Saturday - before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  • Sunday - before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evenings of Sept. 17-20, 2017, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4 a.m. on the following morning.

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of Sept. 21, 2017, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 4 a.m. on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.
