WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF RAMP FROM WASHINGTON BOULEVARD TO SOUTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT: The on-ramp from Washington Boulevard to southbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The southbound detour route will direct motorists to Caton Avenue, to southbound I-95. The northbound detour route will direct motorists to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, to southbound I-395, to southbound I-95.

WHEN: Weather permitting, Monday, Feb. 19, through Thursday, Feb. 22, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Crews will be performing fence repairs.

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of Feb. 18 – 24

 

All work will be performed weather permitting.  The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals.  Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes. 

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

REMINDER: Headlights are required at all times on the bridge.

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closure.

The westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Friday from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work or routine annual inspections.  Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for preservation/maintenance work.  

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.

Facility: (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

During tunnel closures at the (I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, drivers may experience 15-20 minute delays while two-way operations (during which one lane of southbound and northbound traffic is directed into the tunnel that remains open) are implemented. Closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.

(I-895) Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Lane Closures for the Week of Feb. 20, 2018

The Northbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evenings of Feb 20-21, 2018, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 5 a.m. on the following morning.

The Southbound Tunnel is scheduled to be closed at 9 p.m. on the evening of Feb. 22, 2018, for maintenance operations. Re-opening is scheduled to take place at 5 a.m. on the following morning.

This is a tentative schedule that is subject to change at any time due to weather, traffic conditions, emergency incidents, or priority closures.

WORK TO RESULT IN TEMPORARY WEEKEND CLOSURES OF RAMPS IN BALTIMORE CITY

 

WHAT: The ramp from southbound I-395 to northbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to southbound I-95, to Caton Avenue (Exit 50), to northbound I-95.

The ramp from northbound I-95 to Hanover Street (Exit 54) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to Key Highway (Exit 55), to eastbound McComas Street, to a u-turn onto westbound McComas Street, to Hanover Street.

The ramp from Russell Street to southbound I-395 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour will direct motorists to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, to Pratt Street, to Howard Street, to southbound I-395.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound I-395 to northbound I-95 and the ramp from northbound I-95 to Hanover Street will be closed Saturday, Feb. 17, from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Weather permitting, the ramp from Russell Street to southbound I-395 will be closed Sunday, Feb. 18, from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.

WHY: Crews will be performing routine inspections.

24/7 TRAFFIC SHIFT ON SOUTHBOUND I-95 BETWEEN EASTERN AVENUE AND FORT MCHENRY TUNNEL

 

WHAT: All lanes on southbound I-95 between Eastern Avenue and the Fort McHenry Tunnel will be fully shifted to the left. There will be no right shoulder and only a small left shoulder.

The ramp from southbound I-95 to Boston Street (Exit 57) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to Keith Avenue (Exit 56), to Clinton Street, to Boston Street.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the southbound I-95 traffic shift will be in place the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 14, and last until Summer 2018.

Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound I-95 to Boston Street will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Your Toll Dollars At Work. The traffic shift and ramp closure are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) $49.4 million project to reconfigure travel lanes on a four-mile stretch of I-95 north of the Fort McHenry Tunnel. Once complete, the project will provide four continuous lanes on I-95 between the Tunnel and Moravia Road.

REMINDER: The MDTA and MDTA Police have deployed Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) equipment to slow drivers in the work zone on northbound and southbound I-95 between the Fort McHenry Tunnel and Moravia Road. Advance warning signs are in place prior to the work zone to alert drivers of ASE use and a "speed trailer" is on-site to display drivers' speeds. By law, if a vehicle is recorded traveling 12 or more miles over the posted speed limit (the posted speed is 50 mph at this location), a $40 fine will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.

The ramp from southbound I-95 to northbound I-395 (Exit 53) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to Caton Avenue (Exit 50), to northbound I-95, to northbound I-395 (Exit 53).

The ramp from Hanover Street to southbound I-95 will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to eastbound McComas Street, to a u-turn onto westbound McComas Street, to southbound I-95.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the ramp from southbound I-95 to southbound MD 295 will be closed Saturday, Feb. 10, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

When daytime two-way traffic is in effect on the westbound span, toll lanes 1 through 5, on the left side of the toll plaza, will be directed into contra-flow traffic on the westbound span.  Motorists wishing to use an E-ZPass® Only lane to access the eastbound span should use toll lanes 6 or 9. 

Monday through Friday, one lane will be closed for approximately 15 minutes for contractor pick-up.
