                                  NICE BRIDGE OFF-PEAK FLAGGING CONTINUES

                                 Work related to ongoing structural repairs and steel work

 

WHAT: The Nice Bridge (US 301) across the Potomac River will continue to be reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating northbound and southbound traffic during off-peak hours Monday through Thursday.

WHEN: Daytime flagging may occur Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Overnight flagging operations are also permitted Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work. Crews are performing work as part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) $5.4 million project to repair the substructure and superstructure of the Nice Bridge. The project began in spring 2017 and is expected to be complete in early 2019.

Drivers may observe equipment like bridge inspection trucks on the bridge as well as inspectors climbing and moving over the structure.

Trucks greater than 10-feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during flagging operations. Every effort will be made to cross all vehicles exceeding 10-feet from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Drivers of vehicles exceeding the width restriction must call 301-259-4444 to obtain approval and schedule an escort. Calls must be made one hour prior to arrival at the bridge and will only be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. In addition, no overweight vehicles (80,000+ lbs) will be permitted to cross the bridge when there is construction on the bridge.

(Off-peak temporary lane closures and alternating traffic)

 

BALTIMORE, MD -- The MD Transportation Authority's (MDTA) preservation project continues on the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge (US 301) across the Potomac River. The ongoing project includes cleaning, painting and repair work that began spring 2013 and is expected to be completed later this year.

The Nice Bridge will continue to be reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating northbound and southbound traffic during the following off-peak hours:

  • Daytime flagging operations Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

                 NICE BRIDGE OVERNIGHT FLAGGING FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 15 - 18

                            Work related to ongoing cleaning, painting and repair project

  

WHAT:           The Nice Bridge (US 301) across the Potomac River will continue to be reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating northbound and southbound traffic during off-peak hours.  Currently, overnight flagging operations are Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.  The overnight hours will temporarily change for the week of Sept. 15 – 18.

WHEN:          Monday, Sept. 15 through Thursday, Sept. 18, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.                     

WHY:              Crew will be performing bridge deck work related to the preservation project that began spring 2013 and is expected to last two years. 

 

Trucks greater than 10-feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during flagging operations.  Every effort will be made to cross all vehicles exceeding 10-feet from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.  No work or flagging operations will occur on the same dates as Washington Redskins home games.

Ongoing routine inspections that began mid-September are expected to last approximately two months and will continue flagging operations Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROUTINE INSPECTIONS TO RESULT IN

TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES AND ALTERNATING TRAFFIC ON NICE BRIDGE

BEGINNING MID-SEPTEMBER

 

WHAT:           Weather permitting, one lane of the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge (US 301) will be temporarily closed to traffic.  Traffic will alternate in the open lane during these closures. 

WHEN:           From approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, beginning Sept. 16 and continuing for approximately two months.                           

WHY:              Crews will be conducting annual bridge inspections.                    

Drivers may observe equipment like “Snooper” trucks on the bridge as well as inspectors climbing and moving over the structure.

Trucks greater than 10-feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during flagging operations.  Every effort will be made to cross all vehicles exceeding 10-feet from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Nice Bridge will continue to be reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating northbound and southbound traffic during the following overnight off-peak hours:

·      Saturday through Thursday with Saturday hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning and Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.
