CONCRETE POURS SCHEDULED FOR HATEM BRIDGE

(US 40) UNDERWATER REPAIRS ON DEC. 18

Work to result in construction-related noise and additional truck traffic

  

WHAT:           The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has scheduled concrete pours for foundation repair work on the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40) in Harford and Cecil counties. Nearby residents, motorists, business owners and their customers may experience higher than normal levels of construction-related noise and additional truck traffic during this time.  The truck route is as follows:  Westbound US 40, to Otsego Street, to Water Street.

WHEN:           Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  In the event of inclement weather or other variables, work also may be performed Thursday, Dec. 19.

WHY:              Work is part of a preservation project to perform underwater foundation (concrete piers/bridge supports) repairs to the Hatem Bridge and is necessary to secure the structural integrity of the bridge piers.

 

The nearly $48 million project is anticipated to be complete by fall 2014.  A similar project to perform underwater foundation and substructure repairs to the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway (Interstate 95) began in October 2011.

WHEN:  Thursday, March 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  In the event of inclement weather or other variables, work also may be performed Friday, March 22.   This is the first scheduled concrete pour with three additional pours to follow over the next two months.
