FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INSTALLATION OF ACCESS PLATFORMS TO BEGIN ON WESTBOUND BAY BRIDGE SUSPENSION SPAN

Minimal Impacts to Traffic Expected

BBPlat

WHAT: Crews will begin installing access platforms at the top of the two main towers of the westbound Bay Bridge (US 50/301). The platforms will be visible to motorists and remain for the duration of the project. The availability of the platforms will reduce the need for frequent lane closures to complete the rehabilitation project. Installation will take place during the regularly scheduled closures at the Bay Bridge, i.e. during off-peak temporary daytime and night-time lane closures.

WHEN: Weather permitting, installation will begin overnight on Saturday, April 29. The work will take approximately two months to complete.

WHY: The work is part of the MDTA's $29.6 million rehabilitation project for the westbound Bay Bridge suspension span. The project is part of the MDTA's $273 million system preservation and safety investment at the Bay Bridge over the next six years. The entire project is expected to be complete in summer 2018.

The MDTA encourages motorists to drive carefully around all work zones. Drivers should pay attention to electronic and static signs for up-to-date traffic patterns.

For 24/7 Bay Bridge traffic information, call 1-877-BAYSPAN (1-877-229-7726) or visit baybridge.com. To view real-time traffic camera images on MDTA roadways, visit mdta.maryland.gov.
