CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON NEW PARK AND RIDE NEAR

I-95 INTERCHANGE AT MD 24/924 IN HARFORD COUNTY

Work begins June 15, with new 265-space Park and Ride lot slated for summer 2021 opening

Baltimore, Md. (June 9, 2020) – As part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) $1.1 billion program to relieve congestion and improve travel along the I-95 corridor in Harford County, the MDTA is constructing a new Park and Ride lot at the intersection of MD 924 and Woodsdale Road adjacent to the I-95 interchange at MD 24/MD 924 in the Abingdon area. This location will benefit commuters in Harford County and others using I-95.

The Park and Ride lot will consist of 265 spaces and will enhance bus and transit connections for the community. Access to the Park and Ride will be provided along MD 924 using a right-in and right-out entrance and exit. Additional full access will be provided via Woodsdale Road.

Construction is anticipated to begin June 15 and take approximately a year to complete. The Park and Ride is expected to be operational in summer 2021. Traffic operations on MD 924 and Woodsdale Road will be maintained, with some off peak daytime and nighttime closures during construction.

The MDTA is continuing work on this and other projects during the COVID-19 state of emergency while adhering to state and federal health and safety guidelines. The MDTA’s $1.1 billion Express Toll Lanes (ETL) Northbound Extension Program between MD 43 and north of MD 24 will alleviate delays and improve travel along northbound I-95 between Baltimore and Harford counties.

In addition to extending the northbound I-95 ETL, the program will replace several bridges that are more than 50 years old and will provide new noise walls for adjacent communities. The ETL Northbound Extension Program will be completed in multiple segments. For more information, visit mdta.maryland.gov/I95ETLNB/home.html.
