I-95 At Belvidere Road Interchange - Construction

Initial Phase (Complete)
Construction Start
Work included clearing and grubbing vegetation and topsoil, preparing staging areas, installing erosion and sediment controls, and performing other work necessary to facilitate construction such as clearing or moving existing utilities.
Earthwork/Grading/Roadway Improvements
Contractors moved earth and made changes to roadways such as preparing Belvidere Road to maintain traffic while the existing bridge was demolished and reconstructed.
Intermediate Phase (We Are Here)
Demolish Existing Bridge
The existing bridge has been demolished using methods that minimize impacts to traffic on I-95 such as nighttime work and temporary lane closures. Half of the new Belvidere Bridge is currently in use for Belvidere Road traffic.
New Bridge Construction
Crews are constructing the final half of the new Belvidere Road bridge using methods that minimize impacts to traffic on I-95 such as nighttime work and temporary lane closures.
Final Phase (Summer / Fall 2026 – Summer 2027)
Substantial Completion & Open-To-Traffic
The final steps of construction will occur and include paving and striping the new interchange ramps, installing traffic control devices such as signals and signage on I-95 and Belvidere Road, and installing landscaping. Lastly, contractors will remove construction staging areas and erosion and sediment controls.
