MDTA POLICE BEGIN AGGRESSIVE DRIVING ENFORCEMENT DURING THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND

BALTIMORE, MD – From May 24 – 28, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will conduct enforcement efforts to educate and remove aggressive and impaired drivers from MDTA roadways.

The MDTA Police’s goal is to reduce the number of crashes caused by aggressive and impaired drivers. Aggressive driving includes speeding, tailgating, running red lights and stop signs and unsafe lane changes. According to the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO), an average of 41 fatalities and 251 serious injuries occur each year in traffic crashes involving aggressive drivers.

There is no excuse to drive impaired. Using ride-share services and a designated driver are your best options to arrive at your destination safely. During this campaign, officers want motorists to make decisions that help ensure a safe driving environment for everyone on the road.

The MDTA Police support the MHSO Toward Zero Deaths campaign – a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland’s roadway. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com.

The MDTA Police remind you to “Move Over or Slow Down” for emergency vehicles and tow trucks that are stopped on a highway with visual signals.
