MDTA POLICE STEPPING UP

IMPAIRED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT DURING

THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND

#makeaplan

BALTIMORE, MD - During the Labor Day weekend, Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will be out on the roadways enforcing impaired, distracted and aggressive driving laws.

"Drinking and driving is a choice. A bad choice that can have tragic results," said MDTA Police Chief Col. Jerry Jones. "If you are going to drink alcohol, make the right choice and don't drive."

The MDTA Police remind motorists that "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving" and to #makeaplan BEFORE you head to your destination:

1. Choose a designated driver.

2. Call a taxi or ride-share service.

3. Take public transportation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2011 - 2015, 460 lives were lost in drunk-driving-related crashes during the Labor Day holiday.

The MDTA Police are committed to reducing traffic crashes that result in serious injuries and deaths on our roadways and supports the "Toward Zero Deaths" campaign - a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland's roadways. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com.

The MDTA Police also remind motorists to "Move Over or Slow Down" for emergency vehicles and tow trucks that are stopped on a highway with visual signals.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police is a nationally accredited law-enforcement agency. MDTA Police Officers provide safety, security and service to Maryland's citizens and visitors as they use transportation facilities across the State.
