CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERNS ON

SOUTHBOUND & NORTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE

#i95bmore

WHAT: Southbound I-95 traffic lanes will split immediately after the Fort McHenry Tunnel with two lanes to the left and two lanes to the right. Motorists MUST stay right at the toll plaza and use the right tube for Exit 55 (Key Hwy.) and Exit 53 (I-395). Exit 52 (MD 295) and thru traffic should stay left. Reminder: E-ZPass is accepted in all open toll lanes.

Southbound I-95

To accomplish the southbound I-95 split, the ramp from Hanover Street to southbound I-95 will be temporarily closed overnight. The detour route will direct motorists to eastbound McComas Street, to a u-turn onto westbound McComas Street, to southbound I-95.

Southbound I-95 traffic lanes will return to normal conditions after the Key Highway on-ramp. Between the I-395 on-ramp and Exit 52 (MD 295), all three traffic lanes will shift to the left.

Northbound I-95 traffic lanes will split with two lanes to the left and two lanes to the right from Exit 50 (Caton Avenue) to Exit 52 (Russell Street.). To use Exit 51 (Washington Blvd.), you MUST use the two right lanes prior to the split.

Northbound I-95

WHEN: Weather permitting, the Hanover Street ramp to southbound I-95 will close Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

Weather permitting, the southbound I-95 traffic split AND shift will be in effect by Sunday, May 3, for approximately three to four weeks.

Weather permitting, the northbound I-95 split will be in effect by Tuesday, May 5, for approximately two to three weeks.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The split traffic patterns and shifts are part of the Maryland Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.
